Animal beauty contests, motor shows and erotica fairs, fairgrounds, nightclubs, parties and sporting competitions: Variation explores contemporary forms of seduction and artifice, the theatricalisation of everyday life and the codes of ordinary spectacle.
The images stop neither at anecdote nor at irony. They isolate a moment suspended between two states, a gesture or a pose, and make reality at once very present and slightly unreal. Each photograph works like a sleight of hand.
